Glad you are here. We'll allow a few more minutes for others to join us.

[Wed Feb 08 17:13:45 PST 2006] Gary

That sounds good

[Wed Feb 08 17:14:03 PST 2006] klara

I had a question above about eating at night - ok if we talk about it?

[Wed Feb 08 17:14:18 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Sure! What is your question?

[Wed Feb 08 17:14:31 PST 2006] klara

How to not do it!!!! :>)

[Wed Feb 08 17:15:21 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Ahhh. I am guessing that you have some low blood sugar. Are you eating adequete protein in your diet? What about oils?

[Wed Feb 08 17:15:58 PST 2006] klara

ouch - just the opposite of what Jeanne, our counselor from Belgium has been advising

[Wed Feb 08 17:16:05 PST 2006] klara

saying we need very little protein

[Wed Feb 08 17:16:46 PST 2006] klara

but for total honesty, still eating "wrong" foods, the SAD foods when getting lazy to cook

[Wed Feb 08 17:17:45 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Without enough protein most people will be hungry. My understanding of macrobiotic is that all food has it's place. Only, junk type foods were not really invented when Ohsawa was alive the way they are today.

[Wed Feb 08 17:18:46 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

I do not believe in lazy. Lazy is like using the word "try". I'm sure you have plenty of energy to do other things you might just need to get even more committed to what you really want.

[Wed Feb 08 17:18:49 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

What do you want?

[Wed Feb 08 17:19:28 PST 2006] klara

to be totally eating the "mb" foods

[Wed Feb 08 17:19:49 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Why? What will that do for you?

[Wed Feb 08 17:19:49 PST 2006] klara

not the easy foods that are around, like bread

[Wed Feb 08 17:20:27 PST 2006] klara

uh oh, you're turning upside down all I've learned??

[Wed Feb 08 17:22:09 PST 2006] klara

eg., my husband also cooks, made tuna casserole the other day, regular oil, milk, etc showed up on the toilet the next day - I realized, I knew why, still the "taste" and smell of his food was appealing, not the results

[Wed Feb 08 17:23:31 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Good! This is actually on topic of food and love. So wonderful to have a husband who cooks. Now, the two of you might wish to get on the same page and see what you are committed to. Perhaps the next Tuna cassarole could be more supportive if made with rice milk or soy milk.

[Wed Feb 08 17:23:53 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

I find that loving yourself and others might be to take small steps in the direction you desire to go.

[Wed Feb 08 17:24:05 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

First you must understand where it is you want to go and why!

[Wed Feb 08 17:24:38 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Have you ever just jumped in the car and said we are going to Germany without a plan or even knowing what the right road is?

[Wed Feb 08 17:25:20 PST 2006] klara

I do great in the morning, plenty good stuff cooking away. It's the night times that I've pooped out and just eat whatever is around

[Wed Feb 08 17:25:35 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Understood.

[Wed Feb 08 17:25:47 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

This is many people, so you are not alone.

[Wed Feb 08 17:26:03 PST 2006] Gary

I find that too, easier to cook earlier in the day too

[Wed Feb 08 17:26:24 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Klara, what is that you would like to be living a macro sort of lifestyle for?

[Wed Feb 08 17:27:02 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Me too. I'm a morning person. Do the two of you plan for food or just wait until your hungry to find what you need?

[Wed Feb 08 17:28:20 PST 2006] klara

that is indeed a problem - but when I'm hungry during the day, I can put off eating til the food is done cooking. At night, I have less patience. And also at night, it's not always from "hunger" that I eat

[Wed Feb 08 17:28:54 PST 2006] Gary

I like to plan ahead with soaking overnight when possible for one big meal at lunch

[Wed Feb 08 17:29:08 PST 2006] Gary

less at supper

[Wed Feb 08 17:29:31 PST 2006] klara

:>) sometimes my breakfast becomes lunch - eat around 11 ish by the time I'm done with other things

[Wed Feb 08 17:31:16 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

It sounds to me like Klara, you might not be getting everything you need nutritionally so that sets you up for cravings. Getting very committed to what you desire can override the physical cravings and emotional cravings. Self love is taking really good care of you. Eating supportively is taking care of yourself.

[Wed Feb 08 17:31:43 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

I'm curious as to what you say to yourself, Klara, when you are about to eat the "SAD" foods?

[Wed Feb 08 17:32:23 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Gary, that sounds good. You have a plan. Do you also have some quality snacks in jars or in the freezer that you can pull out at any time?

[Wed Feb 08 17:32:46 PST 2006] Gary

No, and I think I am weak in that area very much

[Wed Feb 08 17:32:59 PST 2006] Gary

you asked and made a very good point

[Wed Feb 08 17:33:02 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Would you like a few suggestions Gary?

[Wed Feb 08 17:33:09 PST 2006] Gary

yes

[Wed Feb 08 17:33:14 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Which point?

[Wed Feb 08 17:33:31 PST 2006] Gary

for the snack iseas

[Wed Feb 08 17:34:02 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Okay, so for one of my friends I recently made some snacks for her to take on the airplane for her trip. These would last well in a jar or sealed bag.

[Wed Feb 08 17:34:36 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Roasted chickpeas, I like to call "Chix" as you can make fun "Chix" mixes with seasonings to suit your taste.

[Wed Feb 08 17:35:07 PST 2006] Gary

This sounds like a great idea!

[Wed Feb 08 17:35:07 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

I took oatmeal and spread it thin in a pan and baked it in the oven for an hour so that it becomes a cracker. I mix in different seasonings too.

[Wed Feb 08 17:36:02 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

I made her several big batches of what I call roasted rice Krunchies. She likes to snack on them but I also will pour vanillia rice milk on them once in a while for breakfast...

[Wed Feb 08 17:36:55 PST 2006] Gary

This is fantastic, other than bread a few times a week or mochi, I have always been lost in the snack area

[Wed Feb 08 17:37:19 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

In my own freezer I have all sorts of things to be able to pull out in a pinch. For example, in my newsletter I gave out a recipe for Aduki stew. One girl wrote she was making it every day.

[Wed Feb 08 17:37:40 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

I told her to make one giant batch and freeze individual portions to pull out at a later time. This worked great.

[Wed Feb 08 17:38:09 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

I do the same with baked goods, soups and other bean dishes, even lasangne type dishes.

[Wed Feb 08 17:38:23 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Setting yourself up to win is the key.

[Wed Feb 08 17:38:38 PST 2006] Gary

These are some great ideas

[Wed Feb 08 17:38:39 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

What are your current strategies? Are they working?

[Wed Feb 08 17:39:00 PST 2006] Gary

They could be better

[Wed Feb 08 17:39:19 PST 2006] Gary

and the idea you mentioned about having food in the freezer is a good one

[Wed Feb 08 17:39:40 PST 2006] Gary

ready when you need it for extra variety

[Wed Feb 08 17:40:07 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

We all have times when we do not feel like cooking. Klara, would it be possible for you to even cook something for dinner in the morning?

[Wed Feb 08 17:40:47 PST 2006] klara

things take me a long time - could be a focus problem - so often what I cook in the morning, I intend to have also for dinner

[Wed Feb 08 17:41:02 PST 2006] klara

I realize I need more variety

[Wed Feb 08 17:42:26 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Oh, I think we just need to give you more tools that's all. A recipe is a strategie. You have recipes for how you are doing things. I have a whole morning routine that I enjoy. It feels off to me if I do not get to do it all. Then life gets crazy and I need to adjust. Sometimes it is not comfortable and I need to adjust again.

[Wed Feb 08 17:42:53 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Learning how to cook fast and easy and healthy was a necessity for me. That is how four + cookbooks have been born.

[Wed Feb 08 17:42:59 PST 2006] Gary

What Klara is saying about eating breakfast a t 11 am

[Wed Feb 08 17:43:22 PST 2006] Gary

I admit that in maybe the last yr or so, I have fallen into that too

[Wed Feb 08 17:43:37 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Why is that a problem for you?

[Wed Feb 08 17:43:52 PST 2006] Gary

Trying to do too much early morning work

[Wed Feb 08 17:44:09 PST 2006] Gary

sort of under estimating how involved I would get into things

[Wed Feb 08 17:44:35 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Then after waiting too long to eat are you ravinous or is it okay?

[Wed Feb 08 17:44:47 PST 2006] Gary

I am usually pretty hungry

[Wed Feb 08 17:45:04 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

So would it be more self loving if you at something soon after you awake?

[Wed Feb 08 17:45:22 PST 2006] Gary

so concerned that this is not good for me

[Wed Feb 08 17:45:38 PST 2006] klara

my first meal is the best. I chew well, love the food and pretty much enjoy it all

[Wed Feb 08 17:45:58 PST 2006] klara

still don't know why that energy dissipates by nighttime

[Wed Feb 08 17:46:14 PST 2006] Gary

Yes,. it would be good for me to eat far sooner, and I did for a long time

[Wed Feb 08 17:46:41 PST 2006] Gary

For me this is one of my goals to work on

[Wed Feb 08 17:47:20 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Klara, very good about the first meal. It might be a good experiment to eat soon after you both get up to see how this might shift things for you. Please understand that there is no right way.

[Wed Feb 08 17:48:01 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Klara, have you worked to stabolize your blood sugar? It sounds like that might be an obstacle for you at this moment.

[Wed Feb 08 17:48:05 PST 2006] klara

I think I feel I'm "paying" back by not eating first thing in am. Besides if I've eaten at night, usually not at all hungry first thing

[Wed Feb 08 17:48:33 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

So what would it take for the two of you to start experimenting?

[Wed Feb 08 17:49:08 PST 2006] Gary

Well, we both learned that we have the same problem, i did not know this before

[Wed Feb 08 17:49:23 PST 2006] Gary

I am hoping we can now encourage eachother

[Wed Feb 08 17:49:31 PST 2006] Gary

to both work on the same thing

[Wed Feb 08 17:49:44 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Are you two friends? Live in the same area?

[Wed Feb 08 17:49:50 PST 2006] klara

I wish

[Wed Feb 08 17:50:11 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Okay, so how might you experiment even without each other?

[Wed Feb 08 17:50:13 PST 2006] klara

Gary, want to come live here???

[Wed Feb 08 17:51:12 PST 2006] klara

you asked earlier what I tell myself when eating SAD food, I recognize it's all a process and even tho I'm not eating as I think is ideal, this is what I enjoy now and tell myself not to feel guilty

[Wed Feb 08 17:51:31 PST 2006] Gary

It sounds nice, but I think we can let eachother know how we are doing in trying to do better on this

[Wed Feb 08 17:51:45 PST 2006] klara

that eventually it will get better

[Wed Feb 08 17:51:54 PST 2006] klara

but I do seem to be stuck on this issue a long time

[Wed Feb 08 17:52:05 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Klara, that is good to recognize only telling yourself not to feel guilty gets you feeling guilty.

[Wed Feb 08 17:52:11 PST 2006] klara

and again, often eat not from hunger, maybe boredom, maybe???

[Wed Feb 08 17:52:35 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Both of you. What is it you would like to be healthy for?

[Wed Feb 08 17:52:46 PST 2006] klara

not sure guilty, just kind of sorry, sad

[Wed Feb 08 17:52:46 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

What is it you would like to eat better for?

[Wed Feb 08 17:53:00 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

What would you like instead Klara?

[Wed Feb 08 17:53:18 PST 2006] Gary

To feel as healthy as I can

[Wed Feb 08 17:53:28 PST 2006] klara

for heat and heart to be in sync

[Wed Feb 08 17:53:31 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Yes, Gary and why?

[Wed Feb 08 17:53:33 PST 2006] klara

head, not heat

[Wed Feb 08 17:54:02 PST 2006] Gary

So I can just deal with the challenges in it

[Wed Feb 08 17:54:03 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

:-), yes I understood. Is that something that really turns you on?

[Wed Feb 08 17:54:07 PST 2006] klara

for myself, to feel more calm, and more joyful

[Wed Feb 08 17:54:11 PST 2006] Gary

better

[Wed Feb 08 17:55:06 PST 2006] Gary

I mean balance too

[Wed Feb 08 17:55:28 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

If you really wish to feel joy and you are choosing to eat foods that do not support that then you lose out on the joy. What can you do to choose to be as supportive in your choices as you can to feel more and more joy?

[Wed Feb 08 17:55:55 PST 2006] klara

need more discipline than I seem to be ready to give

[Wed Feb 08 17:55:55 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

gary, what would you like the balance for?

[Wed Feb 08 17:56:16 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

I'm not sure it takes discipline. It takes committment.

[Wed Feb 08 17:56:30 PST 2006] klara

discipline to say no when I need to

[Wed Feb 08 17:56:33 PST 2006] Gary

I think so I can better find a blance between work and life

[Wed Feb 08 17:56:36 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

If you were going to die there would be more of a desire to do what ever it takes to get well.

[Wed Feb 08 17:56:38 PST 2006] klara

and to cook when I'd rather be doing other things

[Wed Feb 08 17:56:45 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

That is instant committment

[Wed Feb 08 17:57:15 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Ahhh. So you might like some of my fast and easy recipes to ease up your cooking time.

[Wed Feb 08 17:57:54 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Also, realize, it is all your choice. You get the consequences of your choice. I love brownies. I got tired of all the negative reactions I would have from them.

[Wed Feb 08 17:58:14 PST 2006] klara

I'd probably like to learn to say no to things, like the computer!

[Wed Feb 08 17:58:17 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

It took me getting sick several times after eating brownies to finally let them go for a bit of time.

[Wed Feb 08 17:59:09 PST 2006] klara

which I love, computers, writing

[Wed Feb 08 17:59:10 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

That bit of time has been about 5 years now. I may be ready to experiment and eat brownies again one day. I check in and ask myself as I write this. Not now. I know that it is not the time yet.

[Wed Feb 08 17:59:57 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Please say yes to things you love. That is supportive for you. Just keep it in context of all you wish to do in your life and what is important to you.

[Wed Feb 08 18:00:33 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

For me being healthy is very important. Foods that do not support that are just not an option for me.

[Wed Feb 08 18:01:49 PST 2006] Gary

I think for myself, it is less what I should not eat, but just having a better sechedule in the moning

[Wed Feb 08 18:02:00 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Good!

[Wed Feb 08 18:02:06 PST 2006] Gary

and having moe variety in waht I eat

[Wed Feb 08 18:02:23 PST 2006] Gary

the frezer idea really sounds good to me

[Wed Feb 08 18:02:35 PST 2006] Gary

I was lways stuck on fozen is bad

[Wed Feb 08 18:02:43 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Gary, for you I suggest that you take a look at my Food Success Journal. It has some great tools to get better organized.

[Wed Feb 08 18:02:44 PST 2006] Gary

I see I was wrong

[Wed Feb 08 18:02:59 PST 2006] Gary

Organization is what i need

[Wed Feb 08 18:03:05 PST 2006] Gary

I will look at that

[Wed Feb 08 18:03:20 PST 2006] klara

is that a book or on your site?

[Wed Feb 08 18:04:11 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

You might lose just a tad of the umph that the freshly cooked food had but it is easy to pair it up with some quickly cooked greens or other veggies to get more energy in and having the time saving is better than eating unsupportive food altogether.

[Wed Feb 08 18:04:27 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Yes, you can download the success journal from susanmarque.com

[Wed Feb 08 18:04:49 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Please forgive my site it is a work in progress.

[Wed Feb 08 18:04:58 PST 2006] klara

isn't life???

[Wed Feb 08 18:05:04 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

Yes!

[Wed Feb 08 18:05:33 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

It was a pleasure typing with you two tonight.

[Wed Feb 08 18:06:08 PST 2006] Gary

I really have gained from this evening

[Wed Feb 08 18:06:16 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

I'm so glad!

[Wed Feb 08 18:06:28 PST 2006] klara

much food for thought. Thank you

[Wed Feb 08 18:06:59 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

You are welcome. For more coaching please call into my radio show on Sundays.

[Wed Feb 08 18:07:29 PST 2006] Gary

Thanks so much

[Wed Feb 08 18:07:34 PST 2006] klara

I tried. Also had technical difficulties. Well, I'll ask my hsuband to help with that. That kind of food I accept willingly, his help

[Wed Feb 08 18:07:53 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

:-) Be well!!!

[Wed Feb 08 18:08:13 PST 2006] Gary

Klara, lets both work on our morning goals

[Wed Feb 08 18:08:34 PST 2006] klara

that means I can't look forward to your posts at 1 in the afternoon :<(

[Wed Feb 08 18:08:57 PST 2006] klara

ok, I'll work on patience - I can wait

[Wed Feb 08 18:09:43 PST 2006] Gary

Thanks again Susan

[Wed Feb 08 18:10:56 PST 2006] Susan_Marque

I'm off to make some dinner. I leave it all to you two.

[Wed Feb 08 18:11:01 PST 2006] klara

but in the end it's always ok - probably will be this time too

[Wed Feb 08 18:11:30 PST 2006] Gary

You have a good evening Susan
